HOW NAVTEC ROD RIGGING WORKS

Nitronic 50 rod rigging outperforms wire in strength, stretch, and longevity — and the NAVTEC system is engineered so every component works together from rod to chainplate.

1
Select Your Rod R505 Nitronic 50 rod is available in 12 dash sizes from -04 through -60, covering the full range of vessel sizes from small performance racers through large offshore yachts. Rod diameter, minimum breaking strength, and after-heading dimensions are published for every size to support accurate specification.
2
BUILD YOUR TERMINAL SYSTEM Every rod end requires the correct combination of terminal fitting, stemball or eye geometry, and spreader tip hardware for its position in the rig. Hayn publishes hardware factors for all NAVTEC components so total assembly lengths can be calculated accurately before any hardware is ordered.
3
SPECIFY YOUR DECK HARDWARE Tip turnbuckles, tang combinations, and chainplate toggles complete the system at the deck fitting. High fatigue rod eyes and toggle jaws are available for forestay and shroud positions where cyclic loading demands more than a standard terminal can deliver.
4
Get It Right The First Time Hayn's technical team has been supporting NAVTEC rod rigging builds and replacements for decades. If you have questions about sizing, compatibility, or specifying components for a non-standard installation, contact us before you order.

NAVTEC by Hayn is the rod rigging system that changed offshore sailing. Developed in the 1970s and now engineered and manufactured by Hayn in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, NAVTEC introduced Nitronic 50 rod rigging to the yachting world — a high-strength, low-stretch, corrosion-resistant alternative to wire that remains the benchmark for performance standing rigging on racing and bluewater cruising sailboats alike. The full NAVTEC product line covers everything from R505 Nitronic 50 rod in 12 sizes through the complete system of terminals, stemballs, spreader tip cups, tangs, turnbuckles, and insulators needed to build or replace a rod rigging system from masthead to chainplate.

Every NAVTEC component is engineered to work as a system. Stemballs and spreader tip cups distribute load at the rod terminal interfaces, reducing the bending stress concentration that drives fatigue failure in conventional fixed-end fittings. High fatigue rod eyes and toggle jaws extend service life in forestay and shroud applications where lead angle variation places continuous cyclic demands on the terminal. Tip turnbuckles and tang combinations provide the micro-adjustment range that rod rigging demands at the deck fitting. Whether you are building a new rig, replacing aging hardware, or upgrading from wire, Hayn stocks the full NAVTEC system and the expertise to help you specify it correctly.
